Hello and welcome.

I’m Steven Thompson — a Reformed Christian, husband to Marissa, and father to three lively daughters.

The name Oaken Paths comes from two passages of Scripture that have stuck with me. Psalm 1 describes the righteous as trees planted by streams of water, yielding fruit in season, prospering in all they do. Jeremiah 6:16 calls us to seek the “ancient paths” and walk in them. When we plant ourselves in God’s Word and actually walk those paths, that’s when we find rest for our souls. That’s what this blog is about, and I’d love for you to walk along with me.

Walking these paths starts with knowing the Bible — front to back, from any angle you can approach it — and letting its truth cut through the cultural fog we’ve been breathing our whole lives.

There may be times I “step on toes,” as us southerners like to say. Not because I want to, but because God’s Word is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, cutting to the heart and discerning the thoughts and intentions of our souls (Hebrews 4:12).

On Oaken Paths, you’ll find:

  • Scripture-centered reflections
  • Thoughts on applying God’s Word to daily life
  • Reflections on family, education, and discipleship
  • Insights and quotes from books I’m reading

When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me reading Scripture, walking the yard with my daughters, or thinking through life over a cup of coffee.

I post at least once a week, usually on Thursdays. You’ll also see occasional reflections on sermons, books I’m reading, and everyday life.

If you’d like to join me on this journey, start with my latest post to see the kinds of reflections I share.

    Soli Deo Gloria.
